The PIECE project – Digital Product Passport (DPP) training to support battery industry response to the EU Circular Economy – marks a major milestone in advancing sustainability and digital innovation in the European battery sector. With the upcoming launch of its pioneering Digital Product Passport (DPP) training, the project offers a practical response to EU goals for a circular economy and traceable supply chains.
Developed by a strong consortium of European partners including UCRS, EWF, FAN3D, AIMEN, ASA, MINESPIDER, and OILFE, the PIECE project is funded by the European Union and spans over two years. Its main goal is to design and implement training strategies that equip professionals and organizations with the knowledge needed to apply Digital Product Passports effectively.
The training approach is grounded in a thorough needs analysis, incorporating insights from surveys conducted with both industry stakeholders and training organizations. Additionally, expert roundtables were held to validate findings and shape a learning experience that is relevant, flexible, and impactful.
The PIECE training is:
- Structured in three Competence Units (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced levels)
- Delivered online, with modular content and a pre-assessment to guide learners
- Covering topics such as data security, passport label creation, regulatory landscape, and stakeholder collaboration
- Supported by case studies and offers a certification after training completion.
Pilot sessions roll out across multiple countries starting at the end of April 2025, following a successful Train-the-Trainers event in Lisbon in early April. The course responds directly to industry demands, helping professionals understand and apply DPP technologies while supporting regulatory compliance and sustainable business practices.
By empowering organizations to integrate DPPs into their operations, PIECE contributes to a more transparent, circular, and competitive European battery industry. 🔗 Learn more: www.project-piece.eu
